Are we all still in one piece? 2010 has arrived, and thus far promises to zoom by just as quickly as 2009 did. Most of the country is experiencing a deep freeze, and our tri-state area is no exception. While it’s not so bad for those of us suffering from mega-hot flashes, it’s not great for the heating bill. I’m experiencing the “The holidays are over, I’m ready for Spring” phenomena. It’s not helping at all that every 3 days we get another inch or so of snow. Grumble, grumble.
This Christmas brought two deaths into our circle. The first was the death of a friend’s Mom and Mom-in-Law. Yes, she was elderly and unwell. But as I’ve said before, you’re never old enough to be an orphan or lose a Grandma. Our thoughts are with the family. The second was “Aunt” Virginia. She passed away on 12/21 (but not at our house!). She was 90 and what she wanted most was not to see 91. Having out lived three of her four children and two husbands, she was ready. A woman of character, she was what the Irish side of my family referred to as a “grand lady”. Goodbye and Godspeed, Aunt V.
In the good news department, the daughter of a dear friend received an engagement ring for Christmas. Engagements are causes for celebration and this one is especially so. The girl involved is unwell, to say the least. Not one to embrace the negative she is living her life to the fullest, and makes no concessions to her illness. It’s part of her life, but not her whole life by any means. She has taught me much about courage and continues to light up every room she enters. A toast to this wonderful couple, and wishes for much happiness !
